Michael Gier joined The Protectors to talk about his documentary WOUNDED HEROES, his time in the film industry, and bringing this story to light. Full interview on podcast and YouTube this Monday. About the documentary: Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) among Veterans is a serious problem with over 20 Veterans a day taking their lives by suicide. Most are given prescription drugs but as many Veterans have said, medication is just a band-aid over a wound that will never heal. Our Veterans deserve more than just a band-aid and so director/producer Michael Gier went on a mission and found successful treatments and programs that help anyone battling PTS get their lives back. And just like Veterans; firefighters, police officers, and other first responders not only deal with PTS, but they also have very high suicide rates. Although Michael started out to help Veterans, Wounded Heroes features treatments/programs that help all of our heroes and anyone battling post-traumatic stress; literally saving lives.

Michael Gier - actor, producer, and director - is attracted to projects that change people’s lives. This week on Next Steps Forward, Michael joins Chris Meek to speak about the life-changing documentaries he directed and produced, award-winning “Wounded Heroes” and the follow-up documentary “Healing the Heroes of 9/11.” “Wounded Heroes” focuses heavily on alternative treatments for those veterans, police officers and first responders living with post-traumatic stress (PTS), including RTM Therapy, a visualization technique which helps individuals retrieve and then alter memories, and Trauma Resiliency Protocol, another technique currently being deployed to police and fire departments across the nation. An advocate for peer-to-peer help, Michael will speak to the importance of trust in the treatment process and how seeking help from a fellow veteran or first responder can allow individuals to feel better understood and feel as though they aren't at risk of losing their purpose. With a mission to educate others about the reality that those living with PTS can find healing, Michael proves that “finding unicorns,” i.e. people who have moved past their PTS diagnosis and symptoms, really is possible. Because his films focus on next steps for success, he is certainly a fitting guest for an audience that tunes in to discover their own next steps in life!

Michael Gier shares his experiences with Post Traumatic Syndrome and some of the alternative therapies available to help treat and heal people suffering with it. In working with veterans who were suffering with PTS, he talked to many veterans who found the drug treatments less helpful and felt like it made them feel so differently than themselves. Some of them were afraid to go to the VA to receive PTS treatment with prescription drugs because they had seen their colleagues lose their lives to suicide. Working with the veteran population, Gier started exploring other alternative therapies such as equine therapy working with rescue horses. Many veterans have found this type of therapy to be very effective, bonding with horses, even if they didn't ever ride a horse but just spent time in nature connecting with horses. Other treatments which has been very effective for veterans and others who have PTS are Accelerated Resolution Therapy also known as ART, and Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) which both help remove some of the heavy emotional responses that accompany a memory. In this interview, Michael Gier and Jane Dickerson talk about these treatments and many other alternative therapies for PTS for veterans and civilians. - BIO: Michael Gier (Guy-Er) is an actor, director, and producer.
