The Wall Street Journal’s latest documentary “Shadow Men: Inside Russia’s Secret War Company” goes deep inside the lethal global expansion of the Russian private military company Wagner — tracing the group's evolution from a small, guns-for-hire operation into a sprawling network of businesses that has been active on four continents. Through interviews with current and former Wagner fighters, government insiders, victims of attacks and war crimes investigators, the film reveals how the group is hiding the flow of riches and resources through a complex network of front companies that ultimately connect to the Kremlin. 0:00 What is Wagner and who is Yevgeny Prigozhin? 3:36 How the Wagner Group operates 6:16 Wagner’s origins 10:36 A new business model in Syria 17:24 Wagner’s expansion into Africa 19:59 Wagner’s Africa playbook: guns and gold 27:13 The war in Ukraine, Wagner steps out of the shadows 36:09 Wagner’s future #Wagner #Russia #WSJ

Inside the Wagner Group’s playbook. Subscribe and turn on notifications 🔔 so you don't miss any videos: 🤍 On January 10, 2023, the Ukrainian town of Soledar was reportedly captured. But it wasn’t captured by the Russian army under Vladimir Putin’s command. The announcement came from a relatively unknown man, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who said his troops now controlled the town. The troops are part of the Wagner Group, a private army that has become a prominent force alongside Russian troops in the war against Ukraine. But they aren’t new. They've been secretly fighting for Russia around the world since 2014. In this video, we take a look at their playbook and examine the three main steps they use to spread Russian influence around the world in brutal ways. We also look at how they’ve transformed from a ghost army to a recognizable private military group with insignias and an online brand, changing the nature of this secret group and its role in the world. Russian mercenaries are fighting worldwide in crisis-torn regions like Syria, Ukraine and Libya. They’re part of the private military company known as the "Wagner Group". But what is the Wagner Group - and who is pulling the strings? In Libya, it’s thought that Wagner mercenaries have been actively involved in armed engagements since 2019, in the service of General Khalifa Haftar. Wagner operatives are also blamed for numerous war crimes. But often, there are no witnesses to their activities. The Wagner Group was founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman with strong links to the Kremlin. After years of denying any connection between the private army and the Russian State, President Putin has now admitted that the mercenaries were fully funded by Moscow. UN observers say thousands of Wagner fighters are currently deployed to conflict zones outside Russia. Two BBC journalists established contact with two former operatives and interviewed them about their time with the paramilitary organization. In the documentary, they report on the mercenary group’s operations and what motivates members to join in the first place. #documentary #dwdocumentary #russia #libya #wagner DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Wagner mercenaries attack Russia alongside Ukraine in Avdiivka night assault. Turncoat Wagner mercenaries joined Ukraine to attack Russia in Avdiivka. The night assault was orchestrated by the Russian Volunteer Corps, a unit of Russians fighting against their homeland, which includes ex-Wagner troops and former soldiers from Russia’s Storm Z prisoner battalions. Video shows how the guns-for-hire rode into battle in US-made Bradley fighting vehicles, before storming Russian trenches with guns and grenades. They not only took the trenches, but repelled four counter-attacks and captured a Russian sergeant who was added to the prisoner exchange fund. Ukrainian sources said Wagner fighters ‘proved themselves to be excellent,’ fighting side-by-side with the Ukrainians and ’showing commanding qualities’. #dailymail #ukraine #russia Daily Mail Homepage: 🤍 Daily Mail Facebook: 🤍 Daily Mail IG: 🤍 Daily Mail Snap: 🤍 Daily Mail Twitter: 🤍 Daily Mail Pinterest: 🤍 Get the free Daily Mail mobile app: 🤍
On the night of June 23rd at 21:00 Prigozhin posted video footage of a Wagner camp that he claimed was deliberately struck by Russian forces killing dozens of his men. This might have been a false flag operation. A fake attack designed to justify the armed rebellion that would follow. Then Prigozhin released a series of statements on telegram that were aimed at every regular Russian soldier, he requested they join him in what he called his “ march of justice” against the incompetent Russian military leadership in the ministry of defense that had misled President Putin and lied to him to get him into the Ukraine war. Written by: Chris Cappy Edited by: Savvy Studios On June 24th at 4:44 in the morning he took between 8,500 and 4,000 of his most loyal mercenaries and up to 350 pieces of heavy equipment to take over the South Military district command in Rostov. Prigozhin claimed he had 25,000 mercenaries with him but that was likely an eggeration based on visual estimates of his forces. He had with him nine main battle tanks, some T-90, four Tigr vehicles, a Grad MLRS system, and a howitzer, a Pantsir S-1 air defense systems, and infantry fighting vehicles. If his plan was going to work Prigozhin needed to leverage his social media influence to convince regular Russian troops to revolt and join his small group of soldiers. He didn’t have enough manpower on his own. The reason he didn't call this action a coup is two fold. First because it would be harder for Russian soldiers to swallow. They would be less sympathetic to join a coup which is seen as treason. But to revolt against the terrible Russian military leadership…. that they might stomach. Second, Not calling it a coup also gave him wiggle room to cut a deal if his plan failed he could say it was just simply a protest. Let's look at what signals did Prigozhin have in front of him at the moment that might indicate he could convince regular Russian soldiers to join him? We know many Russian soldiers haven't been paid and haven’t gotten leave to go home in months. Instead of the $2,560 they are owed each month Russian soldiers say they have been paid several times less than that each paycheck. Some regular soldiers and conscripts have complained about not being paid in two months straight. There are two things you cannot mess with when it comes to soldiers, you cannot screw with their paycheck and you can’t screw with their chow. Prigozhin also claimed Russian casualties are many times higher than reported by their ministry of Defense. If soldiers feel their lives are being wasted away they might be at a tipping point to revolt. #PUTIN #RUSSIA #prigozhin One of the main sources used in research for this video: 🤍 Join this channel to get access to perks: 🤍 Task & Purpose is a military news and culture oriented channel. What happened when a force of Wagner mercenaries faced off against elite US special forces operators in a proxy war in Syria in February 2018? What geopolitical concerns brought each side there in the first place? This event called the battle of conoco fields marks the first time Americans and Russians met in ground combat since an American Expeditionary Force was sent to Siberia during the 1917 Russian Civil War. We finally were able to observe how old Soviet horde tactics fared against modern U.S. tactics and weapon systems - and the results were surprising. Written by: Chris Cappy and Patrick Griffin Edited by: Michael Michaelides To set the stage, In November 2015, the Obama administration first authorized the deployment of U.S. special forces inside Syria where a civil war had been raging since 2011. The goal was twofold to the publicly stated task of assisting local rebels in their battle against the terrorist organization ISIL and the less official goal of preventing Iran from having a clear route to smuggle weapons into Iraq while also protecting the oil field development. If the Iranian forces inside Syria were allowed to successfully take the town of al-Tanf, there would be a direct supply route link between Iran's capital of Tehran, Iraq’s capital of Baghdad and Syria’s capital of Damascus. US soldiers had a side quest mission to prevent this. Only two months prior in September 2015 the Russian military intervened in Syria on the opposite side supporting the Assad Regime. Russia couldn’t afford to lose another ally in the middle east and preventing collapse would increase their influence in the region. Wagner had just been established one year prior in 2014 and an estimated 5,000 Wagner soldiers were sent to train, advise and coordinate Syrian forces. This is a job similar to what the US special forces are tasked with. At this point the Syrian government was widely perceived to be on a collision course for imminent collapse and unacceptable outcome for Russia. In 2018, U.S. supported Kurdish and Arab fighters operating under the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) in the north eastern Syrian province of Deir el-Zour. The US controlled the territory east along the Euphrates river. Meanwhile, Russian Wagner Mercenaries, and Bashar al Asad’s Syrian forces supplemented with Iranian-armed militia groups, patrolled the west banks of the river. Life in this area is heavily concentrated along the river. Travel just a couple hundred meters away from either side of its banks and the terrain becomes an endless wasteland of sand. Members of the mercenary Wagner Group have said they have to ‘stay together’ after the death of their leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in a plane crash north of Moscow. Masked fighters of the group spoke to media outside of its St Petersburg headquarters as supporters also gathered to lay flowers and pay their respects. A private jet plane carrying Prigozhin and associates crashed yesterday Wednesday 23 and came just two months after he had led his mercenaries into a failed mutiny against Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was seen by many to have left him a dead man walking.
